JBS COUROS REACHES MILESTONE AFTER ALL SOUTH AMERICAN UNITS OBTAIN LWG CERTIFICATION
The Uruguay plant recently received the international certificate as a result of its environmental
and sustainability performance following its first audit
The Leather Working Group (LWG) has recognized the JBS Couros unit in Paraguay for its performance on environmental and sustainability issues. As a result, every JBS Couros unit in South America now holds LWG’s international certificate. The LWG is an association that includes many of the biggest brands, suppliers, retailers and leather manufacturers and its goal is to debate and support efficient and sustainable environmental practices across the global industry.
Manoel Grundmann, Corporate Environmental Coordinator at JBS Couros, explained that the broader market wants companies to show greater commitment to the environment. The Uruguay unit serves customers in the automotive sector (including BMW, AUDI, PSA and OPEL) and high added-value footwear manufacturers. “Now it has obtained the LWG certificate, the unit can prove, through external certification, that its operation complies with the industry’s best environmental practices”, said Grundmann.
As part of efforts to obtain certification, the unit invested in training courses to increase employees’ awareness of how to correctly use natural resources and in alerts encouraging people to take greater care when separating waste.
