FRIBOI’S QUALITY DEPARTMENT INCREASES LABORATORY ANALYSES 20% AFTER INVESTING

IN HIGHER QUALITY PROCESSES

Over the past two years, around R$ 5 million has been invested in refurbishing and building the Company’s laboratories

and new equipment purchases

One of Friboi’s missions is to drive ongoing development of internal food quality and safety standards. As part of this central goal, the Friboi Quality department increased the average number of monthly laboratory analysis by 19.7% in 2018. 52.9 thousand samples were analyzed monthly in 2017, however this figure jumped to 63.3 thousand in 2018.

This increase follows a two-year, R$ 5 million investment in refurbishment, personnel training, construction and equipment purchases at the Company’s laboratories. These units are strategically located to serve 31 Friboi processing plants in six states across the country: Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Rondônia and São Paulo.

“The commitment to food quality and safety underpins all Friboi operations and that commitment is reflected by our constantly evolving quality standards. In addition to diagnosing more samples in-house, which provides more reliable and faster results, we have increased the number of analyses delivered on time by 33% in the past four years, reaching 96.2% efficiency”, said Emilia Raucci, Friboi Quality director.

With this additional investment, the new laboratories will be automated and use digital technologies, increasing their capacity to analyze all output using predictive visibility diagnostics, which will further increase the speed and safety with which they can detect any product non-conformities. Four units now also hold certification under the ABNT NBRISO/IEC 17025 Standard. Today, microbiological, physical and chemical analyses and chemical waste testing is carried out in-house to support routine operations as well as customer and government requirements (self-controls).

Friboi laboratories are located in the following cities: Andradina (SP), Araputanga (MT), Barra do Garças (MT), Barretos (SP), Campo Grande (MS), Goiânia (GO), Lins (SP), and Vilhena (RO). A new unit will be unveiled in Redenção (PA) in the first quarter of this year. It will be capable of carrying out 3,500 thousand diagnoses a day, serving the local JBS plant and other units in Marabá (PA), Santana do Araguaia (PA), Tucumã (PA) and Araguaína (TO).
