São Paulo, February 28, 2019 – For the first time, the Favelas Cup tournament will be held in São Paulo with Friboi as its official sponsor. In addition to supporting and strengthening the brand, sponsorship also reflects the company`s commitment to social engagement and its focus on improving the lives of people who live in these communities. The biggest intercommunity competition the world, the event is organized by the Central Única das Favelas (CUFA) and produced by InFavela.
On March 30 and 31, players and trainers will attend a technical workshop providing more information about the championship, as well as a social workshop, sponsored by Friboi, which will include education, culture and citizenship awareness initiatives. The competition kicks off in São Paulo on April 6 and the men`s and women`s finals will be held on June 1 and will be broadcast live by SporTV.

We believe in the project’s goals and the positive transformation sport in football can have on society, as well as the youngsters and children in many of Brazil`s communities”, said Ailton Firmino, executive director at Friboi.
The Favelas Cup kicked off with style at the Pacaembu Stadium’s Museum of Football on January 31. During the event, Cafu, a former footballer and captain of the Brazil team that won the country`s fifth World Cup, was appointed the Favelas Cup national ambassador. Cafu said football is one of the most world’s important tools for social inclusion and the championship will bring opportunities for youngsters living in these communities to show what they do best.
Marta Sobral, a former member of Brazil`s women`s basketball team who won two Olympic medals, and Dexter, a rapper from São Paulo, were also appointed ambassadors of the Favelas Cup São Paulo. The first edition of the Favelas Cup took place in 2012, and has grown in importance as an opportunity to showcase Brazilian football talent ever since.
