São Paulo, December 10, 2018 – The first “Ribs for Good” event, organized by JBS on December 2 during the 4th “Team Penning for Good” at the Barrinha Farm located in Espírito Santo do Pinhal, helped raise R$ 270 thousand (two hundred and seventy thousand Brazilian reais) on behalf of the ‘Hospital de Amor’ in Barretos. The charity barbecue’s sole purpose was to raise funds for cancer patients, charging an entry price of R$ 110 (one hundred and ten Brazilian reais) and helping the institution double the funds raised compared to last year.
The Company donated one ton of Premium 1953 brand beef ribs cooked in both a “ground fire” style, or traditional gaúcho method, and American barbecue style, led by distinguished barbecue chefs and pit masters and enjoyed by around one thousand attendees. The event included stalls serving meat as well as toasted cassava flour, cassava and mayonnaise as side dishes.
The barbecue was attended by the Sourcing staff from Mato Grosso, Goiás, Pará, Rondônia, Acre, Minas Gerais and São Paulo, alongside Açougue Nota 10 specialists and Eduardo Pedroso, executive director of Sourcing at JBS, who helped out as volunteers. “The event was a great opportunity to work alongside some of our biggest partners in the area and other stakeholders to support an important cause that will benefit a globally recognized oncology center”, said Pedroso.
According to figures from the Hospital of Love, the agribusiness production chain accounts for 70% of the donations it receives. “We have a number of events like this one, but I had never seen a Rib as big as this before. I always say that the Hospital de Amor’s greatest assets is its volunteers and donors, because without them we would have to significantly reduce the level of service we offer”, said Rubikinho Carvalho, a volunteer director at the Hospital de Amor, livestock breeder and coordinator of the “Agro Against Cancer” campaign.
Since the beginning of the year, JBS has been engaging its suppliers to contribute R$ 1 (one Brazilian real) to the Hospital per head of cattle sold to the Company through the “Agriculture Against Cancer” campaign. “Symbolically, Ribs for Good marked the end of our engagement with the campaign this year and our preparation to further commit to the cause in 2019”, added Eduardo Pedroso.
