Sao Paulo, June 21, 2019 – The Brazilian Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNB) and the Acre Nelore Association (Anacre) announced the results following assessment of 360 animals slaughtered during the Nelore Quality Circuit, which was held on June 10 and 11 in Rio Branco (AC). The Circuit is sponsored by Friboi and Matsuda Sementes e Nutrição Animal.
André Locateli, executive manager at the ACNB, noted the results of this stage were positive and had helped analyzed quality standards of Nelore meat produced in the region. “During this stage, all of the animals were castrated males, therefore median or uniform fat finishing predominated (59%)”, said Locatelli.
75% of the animals assessed weighed more than 18 arrobas and 59% had up to four permanent incisor teeth. “Alongside the finishing information, these statistics indicate that the animals are reaching the point for slaughter while still young, which tends to improve meat quality and the results for producers”, said the ACNB director.
Marcelo Lemos de Sousa, Anacre president, said that holding a stage of the Circuit in Acre underlines the value of the work done by regional livestock breeders. “Acre has approximately 3 million head of cattle and cattle breeding is very important to us. We are very happy with the outcome, particularly the interest shown by breeders”, said Sousa.
Champions – The Gold Medal for Best Male Carcass Lot went to Sérgio Sebastião de Barros. Livestock farmer Laura Ribeiro de Oliveira took the Silver Medal and Juarez Carlos Brasileiro won Bronze.
The Nelore Quality Circuit, sponsored by the Brazilian Association of Nellore Breeders, supports and promotes pure-bred meat and genetics to help increase productivity for Brazilian cattle farmers. The initiative gauges producers’ results based on their local environment and production system.
This year, Friboi is sponsoring the event that began back in 1999. The Company’s involvement has doubled the size of the event, which will have 26 stages across 10 states. By the end of 2019, the Circuit will assess a record 20 thousand carcasses. In June, apart from Rio Branco, the Circuit has held stages in Redenção (PA), Araguaína (TO) and Porto Velho (RO).
