São Paulo, January 30, 2018 – Transparency International, a non-governmental organization, published its “Transparency in Corporate Reporting” study this Tuesday morning (30), with data from Brazil’s 100 largest companies and 10 biggest banks.

JBS S.A. was proud to be informed that it was one of the few companies ranked “good/excellent” in the business governance and compliance program category.

JBS scored 8.1, well above the overall average of Brazil’s biggest companies (5.7).

The company was ranked 9th among Brazil’s 53 largest companies with foreign operations. JBS came top of the food industry ranking.

JBS’s positive performance was driven by recent investments in its Compliance department. The company hired Marcelo Proença in 2017 to take up the position of Global Compliance Director and kicked off a number of initiatives, which include:

– Launching the “Always Do the Right Thing” program, with a number of in-house Compliance campaigns and training courses for all our directors in Brazil (around 130 staff).

– Hiring White & Case LLP to monitor its initiatives and support global implementation.

– Launching its secure and confidential “JBS Ethics Line” whistleblowing channel, which is operated by a a third party and which employees can call to report any wrongdoing.

Through these efforts, JBS plans to implement a Compliance program that will raise the bar for the rest of the market. The Transparency International ranking confirms the company is on the right path.
