JBS INVESTS IN IMPORTS OF SPECIAL IN NATURA BEEF CUTS FOR RETAILERS

Leading beef exporter increases range of premium imported cuts of beef.

São Paulo, November 8, 2016 – Following the US’s decision to open up its market to fresh Brazilian beef, JBS will begin importing special barbeque cuts – such as rump, skirt, T-bone and the full rib-eye (rump, T-bone, eye of rump and ribs) for direct sale to retailers. The company is looking to serve Brazilian consumers’ growing demand for premium products.

“We sent a product development team to our plant in Colorado to decide which cuts and formats would be best suited for consumption in Brazil”, said Artêmio Listoni, executive director of Sales at JBS Carnes. Importing special cuts will increase the range of option in the company’s premium portfolio and it plans to extend these meat offerings to other countries where it operates, such as Australia.

“Brazil is the world’s third largest consumer market for beef alongside the European Union and China and there is still a large market for in natura premium beef.  We also have a robust customer base in different channels, which shows us we have opportunities for growth”, said Listoni.

The company is the world’s largest animal protein producer and second largest food company, importing around two thousand tons of foodstuffs monthly, including meat, vegetables and fish, to provide a balanced offering to retailers and the foodservice sector.
