In 2017, over 20 million liters of biodiesel were made from used cooking oil, equivalent to 10% of the Company’s total annual output

Sao Paulo, January 9, 2017 – JBS Ambiental launched the Friendly Oil project in March 2017, in the city of Lins, interior of Sao Paulo, in partnership with JBS Biodiesel. The goal was to raise people’s awareness about the importance of correctly disposing of used cooking oil. The initiative has already collected around 2 million liters of cooking oil that has now been transformed into biodiesel.

In 2017, JBS produced a total 210 million liters of biodiesel, of which more than 20 million liters were made using the used cooking oil it collected. As such, the Friendly Oil program represents 10% of its output.

“With the positive results from this program, we have invested over R$ 5.5 million in the plant to expand the initiative, which is now active in over 20 municipal regions”, said Alexandre Pereira, director at JBS Biodiesel.

According to figures from the National Oil, Natural Gas and Biofuels Agency – ANP, Brazil produced over 45 million liters of biodiesel from used cooking oil. “JBS represents around 50% of output”, said the executive.

In 2018, the Friendly Oil program expects to collect approximately 3 million liters of cooking oil and raise public awareness of the benefits that come from correctly disposing of it to build a more sustainable society.
