Sao Paulo, June 19, 2019 – The Nelore Quality Circuit is coming to the state of Mato Grosso for the second time this year. After visiting Pontes e Lacerda in April, the eighth stage is being held in Colíder on June 20 and 21. Around 500 animals are expected to participate in the assessment at the local Friboi plant.
The Circuit, which began in 1999, is organized by the Brazilian Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNB), with support from Friboi and Matsuda Sementes e Nutrição Animal. This phase is being organized alongside the Mato Grosso Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNMT).
“The Circuit assesses animal quality as part of efforts to promote the breed. After all, the Nelore produces Brazil’s most popular beef”, said André Locateli, executive manager at the ACNB.
Breno Molina, the ACNMT president, explained that, among other factors, “the Nelore Quality Circuit assesses early maturity and weight, which are important efficiency indicators”. Mato Grosso is home to Brazil’s largest cattle herd – around 30 million head of cattle. “We are proud to represent 14% of Brazil’s herd, which shows the importance of acknowledging the work done by state livestock breeders”, said Breno Molina.
“Colíder is a major center for Brazilian livestock and the fact regional cattle farmers have welcomed the Circuit confirms that the Friboi partnership with the ACNB will help strengthen both the Nelore breed and the industry as a whole”, said Eduardo Pedroso, Friboi’s executive director of Sourcing.
Any livestock farmer can take part in the Nelore Quality Circuit. There is an advantage for ACNB members: they will have an opportunity to slaughter animals as part of the Friboi Natural Nelore Protocol, which offers bonuses of up to R$ 10.50 per arroba based on carcass characteristics and farm eligibility.
Registration for the Colíder stage of the Circuit has already closed. The next stage is scheduled for July 16 and 17 in the city of Araputanga, which is also in Mato Grosso. This year, the Nelore Quality Circuit has already visited Campo Grande (MS), Pontes e Lacerda (MT), São Miguel do Guaporé (RO), Redenção (PA), Araguaína (TO), Rio Branco (AC) and Porto Velho (RO).
