The Company stood out in the CDP Water as one of the best in Brazil; JBS also ranks among the top seven companies in the world in CDP Forests


São Paulo, November 29, 2017 – CDP (Driving Sustainable Economies), an international organization, has recognized JBS’s sustainability policies after the Brazilian company reported positive results in its water management efforts and its battle against deforestation.

CDP is one of the main global platforms for monitoring the corporate sustainability policies of large companies. Their informational content is used by the financial markets to evaluate the environmental risks companies pose. More than 6,300 organizations worldwide currently report their data to CDP.

In this year’s report, JBS was one of the leading food industry companies in the CDP Climate Change category. This result was achieved through a range of activities such as energy saving, increased use of sustainable fuel, fleet logistics efficiency and increased waste recycling.

In CDP Forests – a ranking that measures corporate policies to prevent deforestation across company value chains – JBS is ranked one of the top seven out of 201 companies evaluated globally. In Brazil, JBS was the top performing company based on disclosure of its responsible procurement policy for raw materials, which includes all the main agricultural commodities (livestock and timber), and its deforestation policies. Particularly important is the company’s Social and Environmental Monitoring System that assesses cattle supplier farms, selecting suppliers that meet the company’s social and environmental criteria.

In the CDP Water category, JBS was highlighted for its Sustainable Water Management Program – created to manage and mitigate water management risk exposure – and its various process improvement efforts to increase water efficiency and reuse at all units. Another area highlighted by the CDP is the company’s governance structure, led by its management-led Sustainability Committee. Based on the company’s practice and policies, JBS has achieved an “A-” grade in the Leadership category, which is above the average grade for all the other Brazilian companies that were assessed.

The Event
The CDP will hold an award ceremony at Teatro Vivo in São Paulo tomorrow (30/11) for the standout companies in its 2017 report. During the event, the CDP will announce the results from its global survey (Water and Forests), in addition to its Latin American Climate Change report.
