São Paulo, May 30, 2019 – Over 500 animals will be coming to the fifth phase of the Nelore Quality Circuit which is being held on June 5 and 6 at the Friboi factory in Araguaína (TO). The Circuit is organized by the Brazil Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNB), with support from Friboi and Matsuda Sementes e Nutrição Animal. This phase is being organized alongside the Tocantins Nelore Breeders’ Association (ACNT).
“The Nelore Quality Circuit was created by the ACNB in 1999 to assess and promote Nelore cattle genetics and meat quality to help increase Brazilian cattle farmers’ productivity. The initiative evaluates farmers’ results based on their individual situations and production systems”, said André Locateli, the ACNB”s executive manager.
The 2019 edition will be the biggest Nelore Quality Circuit ever. “Our target is to assess 20,000 carcasses across the 23 stages of the circuit and we are proud to be able to double the size of the event in the first year of our partnership”, said Fábio Dias, Friboi’s Farmer Relations director. “This will strengthen the Nelore breed and the Brazilian livestock industry as a whole”, he added.
According to José Luiz Sanches Boteon, president of the ACNT, around 90% of all the meat Brazil produces comes from the Nelore. “This is why we need to invest and continue increasing quality. After we have assessed cattle during the Circuit, breeders can go on to improve production, focusing on early maturity, weight and ideal fat finishing for slaughter”, he said.
Any livestock farmer can take part in the Nelore Quality Circuit. There is an advantage for ACNB members: they will have an opportunity to slaughter animals as part of the Friboi Natural Nelore Protocol, which offers bonuses of up to R$ 10.50 per arroba based on carcass characteristics and farm eligibility.
Registrations for this stage close on May 31 and the following stage is scheduled for June 10 and 11 in the city of Rio Branco (AC). This year, the Nelore Quality Circuit has already visited Campo Grande (MS), Pontes e Lacerda (MT), São Miguel do Guaporé (RO) and Redenção (PA).
