Friboi, JBS Novos Negócios and JBS Couros organized a series of environmental intiatives in November. On November 29, the Friboi plant in Pedra Preta (MT) welcomed 45 technical advisors from the Mato Grosso State Environment Department (SEMA/MT).
The group visited the primary wastewater treatment, solid waste, stabilization lake and truck cleanup areas. According to Marcelo Dresch, Friboi’s Environmental manager, the goal was to present the Company initiatives and strengthen transparency in its relationship with the environmental enforcement agency.
The visit is part of the Department’s Environmental Training for technical staff from the cities of Rondonópolis, Jaciara, Poxoréo, Guiratinga, Primavera do Leste and Pedra Preta, all located in the state of Mato Grosso.
JBS Couros also organized an environmental awareness initiative in Naviraí, in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and the 8th Waste Rally for the Amambaí river, which was also held in November. The initiative mobilized approximately 250 people who helped collect waste from riverbanks and
plant native seedlings from the Company’s local nursery.
The event, organized in partnership with the local Rotary Club, was supported by the local City Hall, the Environmental Department (SEMA), the Environmental Police, the Fire Brigade and Green Farm.
Edson Giesch, Industrial manager at JBS Couros Naviraí, highlighted the initiative’s outreach to local fishermen and riverside residents to raise awareness on environmental protection and highlight the fact everyone is an agent of change and transformation.
“Our practices focus on environmental protection and our commitment to sustainability”, said Victor Alípio, Environmental supervisor at the factory.
On November 22, Waste Recycling Day, JBS Ambiental paid tribute to Team Members involved in sorting and recycling waste.
This type of work is extremely important to avoid contamination, protect the environment and support animal and human welfare. It is also an opportunity to generate revenue by adding value to waste. The technical staff taking part also took the opportunity to participate in an environmental protection group dynamic.
