NOVAPROM DEVELOPS NEW, MEAT-BASED FUNCTIONAL INGREDIENT FOR THE US MARKET

The JBS business unit has developed a unique product for the US market and will be the first Brazilian company to export functional ingredients to the US

 

Sao Paulo, April 4, 2018 – NovaProm – Collagen & Food Ingredients, a JBS New Business company – is the first Brazilian company to export meat-based functional ingredients to the US. The unit has developed its NDBS (Natural Dehydrated Beef Stock), a unique product designed exclusively of the US market. NovaProm plans to export up to 2,400 tons of the product this year, which should increase the company’s revenues by 20%.

 

The ingredient, which is already widely adopted by US companies, can be used in processed foods in general, such as dehydrated meat and processed meat products, or even in natural foodstuffs. NDBS provides several functional advantages in a single ingredient, making the end product more nutritional, flavorful, tender and succulent, creating added value.

 

Walter Lene, NovaProm’s industrial director, said NDBS was developed as part of a global trend towards consuming healthier products. End products using the ingredient will be classified in the clean label category. “Consumers, especially in the US, want foods with fewer additives. This means less information on product packaging and labelling. NDBS fulfills this requirement, making it a highly strategic product for our business”, said Lene.

 

The unit invested around R$ 12 million to get the product off the drawing board, adapt its production line, carry out research and provide training. NDBS will be manufactured at the Guaiçara unit in São Paulo “After five years in development, NovaProm is ready for the US market. We believe we will see a return on our investment in less than two years”, said the executive.

 

Created in 2002 – NovaProm – Collagen & Food Ingredients is the world’s largest bovine collagen manufacturer in the world and exports to customers in over 20 countries. It is capable of producing 5 thousand tons of collagen annually as well as 4 thousand tons of functional ingredients for processed products.
