JBS FEED SOLUTIONS STARTS SELLING POWDERED PLASMA AND BLOOD PRODUCTS

Factory produces animal nutrition ingredients made from the chilled adult bovine blood

 

Sao Paulo, June 28, 2018 – JBS is moving ahead with its strategy to develop innovative solutions for its operations. This is why the Company has invested in setting up JBS Feed Solutions, which has just been authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (MAPA) to begin selling high added value products at its first unit, located in Campo Grande (MS).

 

The new plant produces powdered plasma and blood products made from the chilled adult bovine blood. These highly nutritional materials are used as ingredients to make pig and poultry feed. The unit, which occupies 4 thousand m2, is one of the most modern in the world and will supply 100% of the requirements from the Company’s own units.

 

“With this authorization, we will start marketing and expect to process around 4 million liters of chilled bovine blood per month by September of this year. We also expect to serve 100% of Seara’s requirements by October 2018”, said José Flávio De Toledo Usó, director of the FeedSolutions industrial plant.

 

The plant will be able to produce around 550 tons of powdered blood products and 200 tons of powdered plasma a month. These products make up between 3% and 6% of animal feed. Over the past two years, JBS has invested R$ 45 million in setting the company up as part of the JBS New Business structure.

 

Mato Grosso do Sul was chosen as the site for the first JBS Feed Solutions unit because the state is responsible for producing a large proportion of Brazil’s beef and consequently generates a large volume of inputs. 38% of slaughtered cattle represents byproducts – included powdered plasma and blood products.
