São Paulo, November 8, 2016 – JBS Ambiental (www.jbsambiental.com.br) now has access to a cutting edge technology that will be an important ally in managing waste at JBS plants. This technology is referred to as the Traceability System, which allows the company to trace recyclable and nonrecyclable materials supplied to its customers and partners. As part of this initiative, all production chain documentation is catalogued in real time, creating a log of waste generated and monitoring all waste transportation, from its origin through to final disposal.
According to Andressa de Mello, a director at JBS Ambiental, the Traceability System is an essential tool that will allow the company to monitor waste disposal, evaluate the background and legal history of each customer and manage a database containing up-to-date information on all cargo shipments. “This format ensures correct and safe disposal of all waste generated by the company. The way the system is managed guarantees against any possible problem involving reworked material”, she said.
The unit uses a Closed Cycle to manage plastic waste, which means the recycled waste can be reused by the company as raw materials or other products. At JBS, this procedure is used to create new products such as plastic resins, industrial waste bags, tarpaulins and plastic bags. In addition to completely reusing its plastic waste, JBS Ambiental also works with companies that use waste to manufacture new recycled products and partners with companies that charge to dispose of compostable, non-recyclable, dangerous and health-related waste. In order to more accurately assess the legal background of each customer or service provider, JBS Ambiental requests their Operating Permit, IBAMA Federal Technical Registration and AVCB (Fire Department Inspection Report).
The waste is classified as class I (automotive batteries, batteries, empty oil packaging, light bulbs, cooking oil, used lubricant and contaminated glass), compostable (boiler ash, sludge from the Waste Treatment Stations), organic waste (rumen, organic waste from slaughtered cattle) and fuller’s earth (a type of organic waste produced by tallow whitening), electronics, nonrecyclable materials (sanitary waste, plastic and PVDC), recycled materials (aluminum, plastic barrels, teen sediment, containers, copper wire, stretch tape, stainless steel, cardboard, plastic, rubber and wood, scrap iron, barrels and class) and health waste (from outpatient clinics).
Operating at ten JBS plants, the unit started out in the waste management business 12 years ago. It is based out of Lins, a city in the interior of Sao Paulo state, where it manages the warehouses used to separate, clean, shred and prepare material for recycling.
